Micheal S. Milovich

Michael S. Milovich. Commissioner Milovich was born and raised in Carbon County (Helper) Utah. Dedicated husband of Lianne (Fossat), father of Anita, Monica and Darla, and soon to be grandpa. He attended school at Notre Dame, Helper Central and Jr. High schools, and Carbon High School before graduating in 1972 with a Finance Degree from the University of Utah. Mike worked at the Utah Power & Light Carbon Plant during the summers and played the accordion in a dance band to help pay for his education.

After graduating from the U of U, Mike worked for a short time for Firestone Tires and Albertson’s Grocery as an apprentice meat cutter before being hired as a loan officer for First Security Bank. He worked for First Security in Spanish Fork, Salt Lake City, Rock Springs, Wyoming, Vernal and finally back in Helper. While in Wyoming Mike was promoted to Vice President/Cashier and was heavily involved in various community projects including the Sub-for-Santa, Christmas Lights and Literary programs as well as raising nearly $100,000 with the Jaycees and Kiwanis Clubs. Along the way he also worked for Zions Bank in Price as a Commercial Loan Officer, as Comptroller for Bookcliff Sales, also in Price, and owning and operating the Helper Foodtown store. He is now the President and CEO of the Eastern Utah Credit Union (formerly Carbon Credit Union) and continues his work with area charities and in community service projects.

Mike served on the Helper City Council from 1978 to 1982 and was instrumental in securing a Federal HUD Community Block Grant to improve the south end of Helper, the business district and the Helper parkway. He also obtained funding from the County to purchase a rescue truck and a fire truck for the city. He was a significant influence in the rebuilding of the electrical system for west Helper and in improvements to the water distribution system in the form of new tanks and water lines. One of the things Mike is most proud of is his13 years of service as a Helper EMT/Fireman and being affiliated with the fine group of men and women who volunteer in their communities helping other people.

Elected as County Commissioner in 1993, Mike has been responsible for obtaining State funding for the construction of the Active Re-Entry and Food Bank buildings, the Fairgrounds Community Center and the Senior Citizen Centers. He has also been responsible for improvements at the fairgrounds and for local baseball fields as well as establishing a training fire tower, the purchase of new fire and rescue trucks for Helper, East Carbon, Scofield and Sunnyside, new equipment for the Ambulance Service and a brand new HAZMAT truck just this year. He is a strong advocate for highway improvements in the Price and Spanish Fork canyons and continues to work diligently against the proposed Gooseberry Narrows project in Sanpete County.

Mike was awarded the Honorary Sheriff’s award by the Utah Sheriff’s Association and winner of the Business of the Year Award for the Carbon Credit Union. He also was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate for his contributions to his community from the College of Eastern Utah. Through Mike’s selfless commitment to the community and organizations he is affiliated with, he continues to be a solid leader that can be counted on as a grounding force for all that deal with him. Carbon County is fortunate to have him as a Commissioner and as a member of the community.
