Dutch Oven
Cook Off
The Carbon County
Fair is holding its 2nd Annual Dutch Oven Cook Off on August 9th. There
will not be an entrance fee. Regardless of whether you win or lose,
you'll experience the thrill of learning more about Dutch oven cooking.
There will be two categories: three pot and one pot.
The three pot
will be sanctioned by the International Dutch Oven Society (IDOS). There
will be cash prizes for the top three contestants. The 1st place winner
will have the opportunity of receiving an expense paid trip to the World
Championship cook off in 2004. Only those who cook three pots, main
meal, bread, and desert, will be eligible for competition in the World
Championship cook off.
The one pot
category is not IDOS sanctioned and will not qualify for the championship
cook off. However, it will be judged under IDOS rules. The top cook
will receive a cash prize.
Entries are
limited to the first ten to sign up. Contest rules will be available
soon after July 17th. For additional information contact Rhonda Peterson
at 636-3233 or Richard Anderson at 637-5521.
The cook off
will begin at 9:00 am. The public is invited to watch and talk with
the cooks. They are an integral part of the judging. The contestants
receive points for how they interact with the public, so come and support
your favorite cook.
The public is invited to sample the food after the judges' decisions.
Dutch
Oven Clinic
Attention all
dutch oven enthusiasts. Tuesday, August 5 at 5:00 pm at the fairgrounds,
there will be a dutch oven clinic. If you have a dutch oven and would
like to learn more or learn the basics, this is the class for you. It

the ingredients and your own oven. For more information call Richard
