Dutch Oven Cookoff

The Carbon County Fair will hold it’s 3rd annual Dutch oven cookoff on Aug 14th, 2004. There is not an entrance fee. Regardless of whether you win or lose, the experience will polish your skills in Dutch oven cooking.

This will be a three pot cookoff, consisting of a main meal, desert, and bread, sanctioned by the International Dutch Oven Society (IDOS).  The theme for the Fair is “Remember When.” The cookoff contestants are to appropriately dressed as early day camp cooks. They will be judged accordingly, but only as a tie breaker. There will be cash prizes for the top three winners. 1st place will qualify for entrance in the Annual World Championship Cookoff in 2005, picked by an independent panel of judges. Expenses to the World Championship Cookoff will be paid by the Fair board. There can be two cooks on a team. The contest will be limited to the first ten teams to sign up. Contest rules will be available after July 17th.

The cookoff will begin at 9:00 am, August 14th at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. The public is invited to watch and talk to the cooks. They are an integral part of the judging. The contestants receive points for how well they interact with the public, so come and support your favorite cook.

For information contact Rhonda Peterson at 636-3233, or Richard Anderson at 637-5521.
