Free over-the-air television service
Carbon County provides over-the-air television service to the majority of the residents of Carbon County. Through the use of 6 transmitter sites, we deliver this to the home if the homeowner installs their own receiving antenna.
Restoring of TV Services
Many citizens have wondered what took so long to get tv service back on. We address the issue in this video.
Also not addressed in this video is Channel 2 service from Ford Ridge.
We are waiting on a replacement amplifier to arrive to repair the problem. We do not currently have an ETA.

Carbon County broadcasts, free, over-the-air, digital television channels from its Star Point, Ford Ridge, and Helper, Wood Hill, Scofield, Clear Creek, communication sites. These channels are the Salt Lake area channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, and 30 and now almost every home in the Carbon County area will have the capability of receiving FREE, over-the-air, DIGITAL television channels, each of which has one or more SUB channels for a total of as many as 33 or more channels.
You will need a reasonably good VHF - UHF combo television antenna and feed line (COAX cable). An outdoor antenna is highly recommended. If you have a splitter in-line to feed more than one television, you may need a good low-noise preamp or distribution amp.
Viewers in Helper and northeast Price (signal from Wood Hill) will require a VHF / UHF combo antenna. These sites broadcast in the VHF and UHF bands. If a preamp or distribution amp is also required make sure it covers both of these bands.
Position the antenna's orientation so it faces our transmitting sites and has a clear sightline (see diagram below).
You will need either a television with a built-in receiver labeled as ATSC, or a stand-alone digital ATSC box that will sit on top of your regular analog TV.
Most large-screen TV's on the market today have the ATSC (digital receiver) built in. If you are planning to buy a new television in the near future, be sure to look for the ATSC (digital receiver) listed on the box or display. If you buy a TV that says "HDTV Monitor" or "HDTV Ready", then it most likely DOES NOT have a digital receiver built in, and you will need to purchase a stand-alone ATSC box. Be sure to ask your sales person to verify whether or not it has the digital television receiver built in.

For televisions that do not have a built-in "ATSC" digital tuner, there is a "SET TOP" box that plugs into your existing TV just like a DVD player does.

Carbon County uses tax dollars to provide this service to the citizens of Carbon County. Through these tax dollars and grants, we maintain the equipment on all the mountain tops to transmit the signal to the valleys.
We also participate in the Eastern Utah Television Association, which is a collaboration effort among the regional counties to make sure the tv signal is brought into the area and delivered to each of the participating counties.
You may call a local electrician, or handyman and they may be able to help you with the installation.
Unfortunately we cannot install equipment for private citizens.
